On november 9th 2007 was the 46th price ceremony. Last years winner won again: Wouter Berkelmans was first. It was a very close finish: there were several contestants that answered all five questions of the second round correctly.
The ceremony was very entertaining. It was a good mix of information about the competition, some "math fun" and handing out the prices. This year, also Saen Options and TransTrend introduced themselves to the audience as sponsors. There were also some nice prices for the winners.

On this day, the winners of the olympiad received their prices. This years winner, Wouter Berkelmans, already took part in the dutch team last year. This is remarkable, because he still is very young. After the ceremony, all participants went to their first training camp. Out of these 17 selected young geniuses the next dutch team of 6 will be selected in may next year. There were two girls in the top ten. The top three consisted of 2 people from 4 vwo and one from 5 vwo. Other winners were from 6 vwo. It is remarkable that the younger people scored the highest. Wouter's father Wim Berkelmans is the president of Vierkant voor Wiskunde. Last year's team was present at the ceremony, and some participants of earlier years. It was very nice to see the people that trained me in 93 again, and to meet the new board. There will be a reunion of old participants in 2007, saying goodbye to Jan Donkers and the other old board members. I also met some participants, now working teachers at universities, research institutes and financial institutes. |
